A Comprehensive Guide To The Cost Of Website Design In Nigeria

Cost Of Website Design in Nigeria

The cost of website design in Nigeria varies significantly across designers. It’s fair to assume that no web design job has a generally recognized pricing.

However, in this post, I will try to provide an estimate of the cost of designing a functioning, high-quality website.

The costs associated with developing a website may be classified into three broad categories. These include the following: Domain name, web hosting, and developer’s cost.

Thus, the following is a breakdown of the costs associated with your next web design project. Additionally, keep in mind that since there is no set pricing, I will stick to price ranges.

1. Registration of Domain Names (N5000 – N8000)

Due to the rise in the exchange rate, this is the most probable amount you will pay for a free and accessible domain name to register. If you need a .ng domain, the price may increase somewhat between N10000 and N15000.

However, you may want a name that is already taken. To do so, you must place a backorder for it (which entails contacting a domain broker such as Godaddy or Namecheap and requesting that they buy it for you as soon as it becomes available).

This cost about $69 or more. However, if you purchase from another individual, the price may be much more (even thousands of dollars).

In general, if you do not have a solid reason for a certain name, just pick an alternative.

2. Fees for Web Hosting

There are many types of web hosting. That may be the case;

Shared hosting, virtual hosting, cloud hosting, and dedicated server hosting are all available.

The category you select is determined by the number of monthly visits to your website. If you just need a business website for your firm, shared hosting is OK.

On the other hand, if your website will serve a big audience, VPS or cloud hosting is the safest option. This kind of hosting is suggested for blogs that get a high volume of monthly visitors, as well as churches and associations with a sizable membership.

Shared hosting costs between $80 and $180 per year (N33,000 to N78,000).
VPS/cloud hosting costs between $360 and $1700 per year (N148,000 to N699,000).
Dedicated server Costs $1600 – $4200 per year (N658,000 – N1,727,000).

3. Fees for web developers

This is a critical element in determining the cost of web design. The programmer’s cost is mainly influenced by the kind of website you desire: static, dynamic (CMS), or e-commerce.

While I cannot predict what a web programmer’s set pricing will be, the cost of a simple static 5-page website varies between N50,000 and N100,000 or much more depending on the degree of expertise. And it usually rises when more pages and functionalities are requested.

The costs for a dynamic website vary significantly. While some programmers charge as low as N50,000, others demand between N10 and N20 million. It all relies on the kind of client, the website developer’s quality, and years of expertise.

Additionally, the sites’ originality and usefulness are critical. If you want a one-of-a-kind custom website created from scratch, expect to spend much more than someone who uses a $99 template.

I usually encourage my clients to use templates since they speed up the process and may save up to 20x the cost of a bespoke design while providing the same or greater functionality.

The programmer cost for an eCommerce website is often the same as the fee for dynamic CMS-driven websites discussed before. What does affect the web design cost, however, are the additional features you may want and the amount of product you wish to offer on the website.

For instance, if you want to take payments online in Nigeria through the Interswitch payment gateway, the gateway itself costs between N150,000 and N200,000. And this is usually included in the programmer’s charge.

Therefore, when your web developer quotes you between N500,000 and N5,000,000, do you have any understanding of what the money will be used for and why?

Annual Recurring Cost

You should understand that developing a website is not a one-time expense. This implies that in order to keep your website up, you must pay an annual hosting and domain name renewal cost. And it differs considerably across websites.

In conclusion, your web design costs are decided by the domain name, the cost of hosting, and the programmer’s charge, which is dependent on the kind of website you need and the features included. But remember this does not include content creation, copywriting, SEO and maintenance.
